Jaeger-Lecoultre watches make special appearance at the star studded Academy Awards
When it comes to making news, Academy Awards are not just about who won an Oscar or not, but also a lot about who wore what. The 91st edition of the awards hosted at The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood had the creative fraternity dressed in the best of brands and designer-wear. Talking about luxury watches, many top Swiss brands made special appearances on starry wrists. We are happy to profile some of the Jaeger-LeCoultre watches that were spotted at the most coveted event in the movie business.
Spike Lee, who took home the Oscar for ‘Best Adapted Screenplay’ for the movie ‘BlacKkKlansman’ turned heads in JLC’s ‘Reverso Classic Medium Duoface Small Seconds’ watch paired with a bright purple suit. He accessorised it with a gender-fluid necklace and a pair of ‘love-hate’ rings from his iconic film ‘Do The Right Thing’ – an homage to both Radio Raheem and the legendary singer-songwriter Prince. Lee’s love for fine timepieces is well known.
Interestingly, as part of a creative collaboration with Artisans De Genève, in 2017, Lee co-created a watch is called ‘Cool Hand Brooklyn’. It is a Rolex Daytona that pays tribute to Lee’s home borough of New York City.
Richard E Grant, who is popular for wearing two watches at all times, was seen in JLC’s ‘Master Utra Thin Date’ timepiece. Nominated for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ in ‘Can You Forgive Me’, the Swazi-English actor is a watch connoisseur who was gifted his first one at the age of seven. In an interview he had said that he has a “box of watches” which includes special pieces like a Cartier gifted by his wife. Another special piece in the collection is a watch gifted by his dying father and is permanently set on Swaziland time.
Nicholas Hoult, a long-time friend of the brand, has worn the company’s timepieces on several occasions, including Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie Geneve) 2019 watch fair in Geneva. At the Oscars, Hoult was seen in pink gold Reverso Classic Duoface Large.
Nominated for ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’ in the category ‘Best Adapted Screenplay’, American film director, producer, and screenwriter Barry Jenkins chose to wear the Master Ultra Thin Small Second’ watch by JLC. He won, two days ago, in the category ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best movie’ at the Independent Spirit Awards.
