A Horologic epitome – The Breguet Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique 5367

The year is set to begin with the most exciting horology  gathering – SIHH 2018. As previews of the ‘how the next 12 months in the world of watchmaking will go’ are floating in, the most enthralling has been the next big thing by Breguet – a Swiss luxury watch house. This time it has stepped further into intricacy and precision as it presents the enamel dialed, ultra thin Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique 5367.

Benchmarking as the thinnest automatic tourbillon in the world, the Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique 5367 is an amalgamation of all the features we love about Breguet timepieces such as the iconic Roman numerals, an off-centred dial, and the archetypal tourbillon. The Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat has been a Breguet virtue since 2013, except this time that a grand feu enamel dial is added. The power reserve indicator has been removed to provide a more minimalistic dial layout, into which a hand-bevelled bridge is fitted to add stability into the complex thin mechanism.

The Tourbillon case is presented either 18k gold or platinum with a fluted caseband and exhibiting caseback so you can peep into the hand-engraved bridges, barrels and the precision based movement. It’s a fascinatingly sleek timepiece of 7.45 mm, due to the self-winding caliber 581 which is only 3mm thick. Breguet devised a peripheral platinum rotor that winds in both directions which enables seamless movement. The watch provides a power reserve of 80 hours with a 4 Hz rate.

The watch is a splendid timepiece with contemporary hints as well as glamour and legacy of Breguet. It’s modern, sophisticated, spot-on on technical and aesthetic aspects and is indeed an epitome of perfection.
